From the label: "Trader Joe's Reserve Sonoma County Zinfandel is a blend of grapes from the highest quality Zinfandel vineyards within Sonoma County. Aged for 18 months in French and American oak, this robust and jammy wine is rich with black cherry, plum and spice nuances."
From DAH: Served to a small group of wine lovers (none claiming to be expert tasters), this wine was quite pleasing. It shows its higher alcohol, which results in a slight medicinal, artificial fruit quality. It is fairly full in aroma and flavor, lush seeming, and a bit tarry and woody. The aromas hint particularly of wild blackberries, on the bush, on a hot late summer's day. There's a hint of coffee-grounds in the nose, too. Flavors are of ripe (and over-ripe) blackberry and sweet elderberry, with vanilla-extract complexities. It has a nice palate entry, and a rich mid-palate. The tannins are modest, but the finish is a little short and hot. Label suggests 15.2% alcohol. Good value. $9.99 per bottle at Trader Joe's.
